The beautiful landscapes of the Zhangye Danxia Geopark are created by sandstone and minerals that are layered on top of each other for long years with the tectonic plates shifting creating painted layers across the rock formation and sandstone rolling hills.

Linze Danxia Scenic Area

Linze Danxia Scenic Area, with an altitude of 2000-3000 meters, is the most popular Danxia landform in this region of China with wide space, wonderful mountains, specific shapes, and magical color, which make it one of the most famous geological wonders in the world.

In these colorful scenic spots of Danxia National Geological Park, the cliffs of Danxia mountains are integrated with beautiful and spectacular stone columns forests and the amazing colorful sight of Wucai city in Xinjiang. Many visitors refer to Linze Danxia Scenic Area as “the rainbow mountains” because of the different colored sandstone layers which have colors from orange, yellow, white, green, blue, and red. The layers become extremely stunning when the sine shines after the rain.

Binggou Danxia is less crowded compared to Linze Danxia Scenic Area. What Binggou Danxia Scenic Area is mostly known for, is its majestic and precipitous appearance. However, its development level is very low and there is no repaired road for visitors to get there. This makes it difficult for those visitors who are not visiting with guided vehicles or self-driving tours.
